Newly elected CM Punjab Maryam Nawaz made notable promises in her victory speech

CM Punjab Maryam Nawaz made notable promises in her victory speech.

Maryam Nawaz of the PLMN has been elected the chief minister of Punjab after winning 220 votes in the Punjab assembly on Feb 26, 2024. The PTI-backed candidate Rana Aftab won zero votes because his party boycotted the electoral process.

The Sunni Ittehad Council, which is made up of MPAs supported by the PTI, left the assembly shortly after it began. Following the denial of the PTI nomination for the chief minister position during the point of order, 103 party MPs withdrew in protest.

After her win, Maryam Nawaz gave a speech in which she said that her main objectives would be improving the areas of healthcare, education, and employment.

“Therefore, from today onwards, after the oath, I will go to my office and begin the implementation of my manifesto,” she said.

Maryam Nawaz then continued to explain all the schemes and projects she would be implementing in the next five years following her victory.

Regarding economic reform, she said that she intended to make Punjab an “economic hub” by fostering an atmosphere that would attract entrepreneurs. She said that she had plans to strengthen public-private partnerships and that it was the government’s responsibility to establish legislation and regulations.

She continued on to healthcare, saying that starting today, all government hospitals in the province would give out free medications. She further promised to construct one cutting-edge hospital in each of Punjab’s cities.

Maryam also added that Punjab would announce the launch of its first flying ambulance within the next 12 weeks in an effort to provide better healthcare to residents of hilly and mountainous regions.

Maryam said the chief minister’s doors were always open to young people and that she would be working on providing free wifi for them as well. In addition, Maryam declared that she would bring back the youth loan plan that her father, Nawaz Sharif, had started. This program featured interest-free loans, skill development, and the provision of gadgets like computers and tablets.

Lastly, Maryam asserted her upcoming role in protecting women. She said that she would start a helpline dedicated to helping women. She added that appropriate facilities, such as separate restrooms and daycare centers, would be given to women at work.
