Samsung’s Galaxy Ring was officially unveiled at the Galaxy Unpacked event in July 2024. Pre-orders opened immediately, and the device is expected to ship later this month.
The ring made its first appearance at the previous year’s Unpacked event, generating initial interest without revealing specific details. Samsung had also trademarked the name in early 2023, hinting at its development.
Price:
The Samsung Galaxy Ring has launched at a higher price point than anticipated, costing $399 compared to the Oura Ring’s $299. However, the Galaxy Ring doesn’t require a monthly subscription, unlike the Oura Ring, which costs an additional $6 per month. This means the Galaxy Ring could potentially be cheaper in the long run, but users will need a Samsung phone for it to work.
Appearance and Sizes:
The Galaxy Ring is available in a range of eight sizes to fit most wearers and is impressively lightweight from sizes 5 – 13, coming in at just three grams. Offered in black, gold, and silver finishes, the ring boasts a sleek and stylish design. The gold and silver variants, in particular, have received positive attention for their appearance. You can determine the correct ring size for your finger with Samsung’s Ring Sizing Kit, which is included with purchases from Samsung and other retailers.

Battery Life:
The Galaxy Ring’s battery life is crucial for its success. While Samsung initially claimed up to nine days of battery life, the actual performance will depend on usage patterns and features. The ring comes with varying battery sizes based on ring size, with the largest offering a 22mAh battery and an estimated seven days of regular use. This is comparable to the Oura Ring’s five-day battery life but falls short of Samsung’s initial promise.
Health Features:
The Galaxy Ring is equipped with sensors to track heart rate, blood oxygen levels, skin temperature, and activity. This data is used to monitor sleep quality, track workouts, and calculate an “Energy Score” based on sleep, exercise, and recovery. Furthermore, Its water resistance makes it suitable for daily wear and most workout conditions.
A unique feature is period tracking, which is enabled by skin temperature data and integrated with the Natural Cycles app. However, unlike Natural Cycles, Samsung’s implementation focuses solely on period tracking and does not offer fertility or pregnancy-related features.
The ring also offers insights through AI-powered features like Wellness Tips and an Energy Score, similar to other wearables.

Additional Features:
The Galaxy Ring offers several features that enhance user experience, especially when paired with other Samsung devices.
- Gesture Controls: Users can perform simple actions on their Galaxy phone by using gestures on the ring.Find My Ring: This feature helps locate a lost ring by showing its last known location and activating a light within the device.
- Optimized Battery Life: When used in conjunction with a Galaxy Watch, the ring can conserve battery by disabling redundant sensors, resulting in up to 30% longer battery life.
These features demonstrate Samsung’s focus on creating a seamless ecosystem where its devices work together to provide a more convenient and efficient user experience.
